Yet another bizarre event for President Elect Donald Trump. On Tuesday the future Commander in Chief took time out of his packed schedule to meet with none other than controversial rapper Kanye West.
West, who had just been freshly discharged after a hospitalization in UCLA’s psychiatric ward, met with the businessman-turned-politician in Trump Tower for a private meeting.
After the short get-together, both Trump and West stood together for an awkward photo op in the lobby area of the building. When asked about the peculiar event, the President Elect explained to reporters that he and the rapper had “…been friends for a long time”. When he was asked about what they discussed, he responded with a vague, “Life. We discussed life.”
In an official message from Trump’s camp, his spokeswoman Hope Hicks explained that this occurrence had more to do with the musician than the real estate developer. In the official statement, she wrote, “The meeting was requested by Kanye and we were delighted to host him.” She later on added, “They had a very positive and productive conversation.”
It turns out that the mini-summit, if you will, may have even had to do with Kanye’s hometown of Chicago and some of the violent challenges that the notorious city is currently facing. Hicks described the rapper’s passion for progress, especially in the city’s inner-city school system. West reportedly wants to the new president to pay attention to “multicultural issues,” as well as “bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago.”
Some conspiracy theorists have their own theories about what the meeting may have really been about. That same morning, reports began to swirl regarding Russia having a hand in swaying the U.S. presidential election in favor of Donald Trump. The hacking scandal could possibly damage his public image before the impending inauguration, so some believe that his people used this bizarre powwow as a publicity stunt to distract the media.
His aforementioned, and much publicized, recent hospitalization for “severe exhaustion” came after a series of somewhat nonsensical rants from the rapper during performances and on social media.
Soon after the two parted ways, West tweeted out a cryptic message that simply read “#2024.” Some believe that he was eluding to a possible presidential run of his own, as he has expressed his desire to take part in the 2020 race last year.
