The 2017 BET Hip Hop awards show was a night to remember for many artists. But most memorable was a freestyle rap by Eminem in which he gave President Trump and his supporters a piece of his mind. He called the Commander in Chief a “racist grandpa” along with a few other choice names.
Social media was all abuzz the day after “The Storm” aired on live television and Eminem left nothing unsaid. He called out the President for his patriotism after his comments on the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, his attack on Senator John McCain, and athletes.
While Trump supporters are crying foul, non-supporters applaud the rap God for simply saying what everyone else has been thinking and feeling since he took office. What can they say? It’s freedom of speech after all. The most telling part of the rap was when Eminem says,
“That’s why he wants us to disband cause he cannot withstand the fact we’re not afraid of Trump. Walking on eggshells, I came to stomp. That’s why he keeps screaming, ‘Drain the swamp,’ cause he’s in quicksand.”
The 4-1/2 minute rap ended with Eminem challenging his fans that support Trump to make a decision, it’s either him or the President. The comments on social media exploded as supporters of the President called the rapper “washed up” said he was looking for attention for a failing career.
Denial always seems to be the way of fans of the President. In no way is Eminem’s career over. Nor is he washed up.
The reality is the freestyle rap expressed the frustrations of the millions of Americans around the country. And while fans have clearly chosen their sides, how has the President responded? Well, our Commander in Tweet has been on “hush mode.”
Could it be he’s afraid to enter into a battle of words with one of the world’s most famous lyricists?
It sure looks that way.
