Carrie Fisher Has Left Us at the Age of 60

It is with the utmost sadness that we report Carrie Fisher, beloved mother and actress best known as Princess Leia Organa, has died.

Fisher went into cardiac arrest during a flight from London to Los Angeles on Friday, Dec. 23rd. Paramedics were on-site when the plane landed and bundled her into an ambulance. They rushed her immediately to a hospital nearby for treatment.

Her condition remained uncertain for three days afterward, and rumors flew. Then this morning, Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd confirmed the worst in a released statement.

“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

Carrie Fisher made her film debut in 1975 as Lorna Carp in Shampoo after over a year of studying acting on London. Drawn back to the bright lights and scandalous reveals of her parents’ world at 17, it wouldn’t be long until she found her own flare of stardom.

She would take on the role of Princess Leia Organa in 1977, only two years after her first role. She was 19 when the first installment of the Star Wars franchise began filming. The experiences she had there were recently recounted in her memoir, The Princess Diarist.

In addition to her acting chops, she was also an accomplished writer. Though she wasn’t always credited for everything she wrote, there were many scripts she had a hand in. The Wedding Singer, Sister Act, and Hook and are just three films she helped craft. She also published Surrender the Pink and Delusions of Grandma in the ‘90s.

With only four days left of 2016, this hellish year had to take one last jab at our collective hearts. Carrie Fisher will be remembered long and fondly. She is survived by her mother Debbie Reynolds, her daughter Billie Lourd, and her much-loved French bulldog, Gary.

May the stars forever gleam with the light she shared with us all.
