Nicki Minaj is at it again. This chick has an extremely high opinion of herself and makes sure she lets the world know how she feels. In her latest interview with XXL magazine, the musician claims she is responsible for bringing female rappers to the mainstream.
Granted, she has introduced a younger generation to her music, which really can’t be considered rap since it is merely talking to music. Yes, her lyrics rhyme. But they don’t actually make much sense. The purpose of rap is to tell a story, and we just don’t really get what she is saying.
And as for bringing female rappers into the mainstream, we guess she’s never heard of Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, or Salt N’ Pepa. But, by all means, Nicki Minaj, you deserve all the credit. Sure, you’ve got a good hustle. Time will only tell if she has the staying power that other female rappers have had.
We’re thinking probably not.
Part of what makes rap legends who they are is their ability to be humble, and Nicki Minaj is far from humble. She always seems to be involved in some type of beef with other female musicians and loves to be the center of attention. And it appears to be working.
Love her or hate her, Nicki Minaj is now at the top of her game. The question is, does she have the ability to remain at the top? Only time will tell. So while the younger generation loves her and her music, true hip-hop fans know a real rapper when they see one. And very few of them consider her a lyrical genius.
We suggest she takes a stroll back through music history and realize she is not the first female rapper to make it big, she is the one currently getting recognition.
