Why We Love Jennifer Lawrence So Much

There are some celebrities who seem pretty nearly perfect. They always say the right thing at the right time. They never trip over their seven-inch heels and trailing ballgowns. They put everyone else at ease (or intimidate them with their near perfection, in some cases). They seem like they couldn’t possibly be any more competent, confident, and polished.

Of course, their private lives are often a complete mess – but they somehow manage to pull off the perfect image in public. They make us ooh and ahh and wish we had their lives.

Then there’s Jennifer Lawrence.

Now, I’m not saying she’s not beautiful, talented, funny, and all that stuff. But she does seem to have a knack for embarrassing herself in public, in the most human ways.

Jennifer Lawrence has fallen down on camera not once, not twice, but three times. And now she’s gone and puked at a Broadway play. Oh J-Law, what are we going to do with you?

1. 2013 Oscars – going up to the stage

Lawrence’s first fall was in 2013, when she fell down going up the stairs to receive her Best Actress award at the Oscars. To be fair, she was wearing a billowy, floor-length dress that I’d like to see anyone wear going up stairs and not fall down in.

2. 2015 Oscars – red carpet

2015, and we’re once again at the Oscars, where Jennifer Lawrence falls down on the red carpet before the show. Wearing a red dress this time that’s significantly less billowy, but still floor-length. To make matters worse, this dress looks sort of restrictive, like it would be hard to walk in. Maybe that’s why she fell down. Or maybe she was just excited, or nervous. Or maybe thinking about how she fell down at the last Oscars and she’s not going to do it this year, and then – oops.

3. 2015 Mockingjay Part 2 premiere

The third time Jennifer Lawrence fell down on camera was at the premiere for Mockingjay Part 2 in 2015 (in Madrid). Walking on the red carpet, guess what happened? You called it. Jennifer Lawrence fell down again. She’s got another floor-length dress, which looks pretty flexible this time, but still long. Maybe it’s time to start wearing shorter dresses and lower heels, J-Law. Just saying.

4. 2017 – Broadway

2017 now, and she hasn’t fallen down in a while (at least, not on camera). So maybe Jennifer Lawrence has finally mastered the art of walking on the red carpet.

But she’s by no means done embarrassing herself in public. Recently, while watching a performance of 1984 on Broadway, Jennifer Lawrence threw up. Apparently, it was nothing to do with the play – she just had the stomach flu. But man, how embarrassing would it be to throw up at a Broadway play? Especially when you’re a celebrity?

This is why we love Jennifer Lawrence. Time and time again, she demonstrates that she’s human: not some picture-perfect celebrity with an infinite amount of grace and competence. She’s lovely, she’s funny, and she’s a brilliant actress. But at the end of the day, she’s also human.

And she can laugh at herself, making us laugh with her every time she screws up. And every time, we fall a little bit more in love with her.
