Are you a blogger? You might be new and wondering how to step up your game. There are definitely some mistakes to avoid as a blogger in 2018. Here are some to look out for.
- Not being self-hosted. The first mistake a new blogger makes is trying to blog on wordpress.com or blogger.com. Not a good idea. You are limited to making money and you don’t own your content. Try WordPress.org or Squarespace.
- Not using Google Analytics. Immediately when you start your blog you want to start tracking your progress. Google analytics will tell you your most popular content and where you are getting traffic.
- Not writing for your audience. Everyone tells you to niche down. The truth is blogs with niches make money and general blogs make money too. But you need to know your audience in either case. You should be asking yourself who your blog post will help, what problem will it solve and will it answer the questions fully? These questions are key.
- Not getting technical. You want to think about coaching plugins, permalinks, and site speed right away. You don’t want to use dates in your permalinks, especially if your site has evergreen content (and it should!)
