What the Heck Is Whole30? Here’s The Scoop…

Regardless of how much the nutrition industry has changed in the last few decades, one thing remains constant.  Our love of fad diets.  Fitness enthusiasts love Paleo and Keto.  Some old-schoolers still favor Atkins.  And Weight Watchers’ popularity seems to be unstoppable.  But there’s another diet on the scene that’s gaining traction.  Enter Whole30.

Whole 30 is a dieting approach that essentially helps you clean out your body for 30 days.  How do you do this?  By cutting out any and all foods that have been linked to inflammation or health risks.  This means no sugar, no alcohol, no grains, and no dairy.  And you also can’t eat beans or legumes, soy, or processed additives like MSG.  Even seemingly healthy foods like Paleo-friendly pancakes are a no-no.  And no smoking either.

It doesn’t sound like a fun diet, but there are still plenty of foods that you can eat.  Meat, fish, poultry, fruits, veggies, and natural fats are all okay.  And, there are some coffee brands that are Whole30-safe.

On the surface, this diet promises you what every diet promises.  You’ll lose weight, improve your health, and have more energy.  But what sets Whole30 apart is its focus on the foods that ruin your health.  After your 30-day diet, pay close attention to the foods that you add back in.  This diet will increase your awareness of how certain foods affect your body.  Once you’re done, you might stick to many of the dietary restrictions.

Additionally, Whole30 has been shown to solve digestive issues, clear up skin problems, improve sleep, and boost your workouts.  And, it’ll help you enjoy natural foods, which means no more cookie cravings.

Oh, and you shouldn’t weigh yourself throughout this diet.  It’s all about eating well.  You’ll only step on the scale on the first and last day.

Do you suffer from adult acne?  Do you have digestive problems often?  Are you often sluggish throughout the work day or during your gym sessions?  If so, Whole30 could help you unlock the path to a better life.  While there’s no guarantee of success with any diet, it certainly seems that cutting out unhealthy foods could have a positive effect.

As always, you should consult your doctor before making any major dietary changes.  But is this diet at least worth the time and energy to consider?  Absolutely.
