In 1989, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler talked about the abuse of women in the band’s song, Janie’s Got a Gun. The song was a huge hit for the group, but ever since it was released, Tyler just could not stop thinking about the plight of so many young girls and women that face abuse on a daily basis.
STEVEN'S IN THE MIX AND JANIE'S IN THE HOUSE!!! IVE NEVER WRITTEN A SONG AS BEAUTIFUL AS JANIE'S HOUSE…THIS WAS TWO YEARS IN THE MAKING!! SPENDING THE DAY WITH THESE GIRLS…IM JUST SO PROUD OF THEM! I'M JUST RELIEVED THEY HAVE A SAFE SPACE TO BE WHO THEY ARE #JANIESGOTAFUND pic.twitter.com/CLHjjMISWG

Janie’s Fund (started by Tyler) joined forces with Youth Villages two years ago to help women that are victims of abuse, neglect, and trauma. He wanted those in need to have a place where they can feel safe and work on healing. And so, Janie’s House was born. The home has space for 30 residents and will allow the women the opportunity to be themselves and work with therapists to get back on the right track.
Steven Tyler wanted to give anyone staying in the home “a voice” and a place to go.
It seems that this rock and roll legend has a heart as big as his sound. So on December 6, 2017, there was a scarf-cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of the facility and there were plenty of tears and cheers to go around. Tyler even wrote a song to honor the occasion, called Janie’s House. The women present for the opening surrounded the singer and smothered him with hugs and kisses.
So while Steven Tyler the humanitarian has been hard at work, it is still up in the air as to when the rocker will return to touring with Aerosmith. The band was forced to cancel their Mexican and South American tour dates due to Tyler’s undisclosed medical condition. Hopefully, the group will be back in action soon because fans are dying to hear their sultry sounds live on stage again.
But in the meantime, we know there are plenty of women that are thankful for Tyler’s huge heart and the safe haven he has opened.
